Great Links for Logo Info

Here’s some good articles and resources I’ve found that talk about logos.

What’s in a New Logo? - This is an article on Yahoo about how companies have updated their logos over time. It’s interesting to look at the changes and trends in logo design among fortune 500 companies.

Creating the Holiest Christian Logo Possible: A How to Guide - This is from John Acuff’s blog: Stuff Christian’s Like. Before you even begin to allow anyone in your church have any input on your church’s logo they have to read this. I found it very helpful in getting our team on the same page. It uses humor to get the point across.

CrowdSpring.com - This is where we got our church’s logo from. It is a site that allows you to have a logo contest in which artists from around the world can submit logo designs for you to choose from. You set the parameters for the contest and the price you are willing to pay. Most designs cost between $150-$500. The more you are willing to pay, the more designers will compete to get your business by submitting designs.

Church Marketing Lab and the Freelance Designer Lab - Church designers from all over the country use this site to share ideas and get peer to peer input on designs. If you are having someone design a logo for you, post it on the Church Marketing Lab to let other top notch designers give you input. It’s well worth it and doesn’t cost anything. You can also browse around and look at other designers work to get ideas and perhaps even find a designer you can hire. Seeing someone’s portfolio is a must before you hire someone. Don’t just hire that guy who someone in your church knows who is an artist. It takes more than a good artist to design a great church logo. If you’re going to hire one person to do the logo, I’d recommend using someone who has spent a while working with churches. Further, I’d never go with some random logo company. They’re prices and options are not customer friendly. Hiring someone puts you in more control over the design project.

3 Tips for Hiring a Freelance Designer – Great post for helping you learn about the process.
