Whiteboard Recap – Jonathan Falwell
Posted on 27. May, 2010 by Steve Swisher in Conferences
At every conference there are things that the speakers say that stand out. They’re usually what you end up writing down in your notes. While reading just the bullet points don’t convey their full meaning or the experience created by the speaker, they might be of help to you. So I’ll be sharing my abridged notes from the conference over the next week. Up first is Jonathan Falwell. His talk addressed the thing I’ve been wondering about him. How do you follow up one of the most well known pastors in the country? How do you get out from under the shadow of your father? It was as if he was addressing it, without referencing it. Very classy, very smooth. I think he’s done it as well as anyone ever has. Here’s some of the highlights:
Jonathan Falwell
- What we do matters, how do we make sure that what we do matters, that it will outlive us and outlast us.
- Pride: all about me and what I do
- Grace: free and unmerited favor of God though the gift of Jesus Christ
- Pride and grace can never co-exist.
- What do we look to for success? The top 100 churches list from Outreach Magazine? God doesn’t call us to make the list, God calls us to make disciples.
- When you spend your life trying to be on the list of the greatest, you’ll end up being on the list of the statistics of people who flamed out in ministry.
- God has no desire to build an army of ministry clones.
- There’s nothing wrong with success, the problem is when you are focused on the success.
- I need to be happy with where God has placed me and who he’s made me.
- God’s called me to ministry, not be a name?
